Approximately thousand five hundred demonstrators returned to occupy the main streets of the city of Porto Velho/RO yesterday evening (June 26). The protest counted with the participation of education workers, trade unions, rural and urban social movements and particularly with the participation of many young people.

The protesters demanded the destination of 10% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for education, democratization of the means of communication, agrarian reform for the production of healthy food and with low prices for the Brazilian population.

Demands for freedom of expression, end of criminalization of social movements, improvement of public services (health and transport) and immediate reduction of the electricity bill and bus fare, measures for political reform and also demands against corruption was part of the protest.

According to Océlio Muniz, of MAB’s coordination, “the demonstrators are in defence of their rights, for quality of public services and for a more direct participation on the political construction of this country. We public defend the popular referendum which authorizes the convocation of a Specific Constituent for a political reform. At this point we consider fundamental public finance of elections.”
