At MAB’s National Meeting held in São Paulo in September from 2 until 5, which gathered more than 2,500 affected people by dams from 17 Brazilian states, the Movement of People Affected by Dams defined that the only way to guarantee the rights of the affected people by large scale constructions is to increase the actions and protests in all the country.
At the final document of the National Meeting the Movement pointed that large companies – national and foreign are positioned in an offensive attitude to be owners of all energy sources in the country, which includes hidro-power dams and petrol, and that now it is time to react.
The MAB also denounces that the structures of the Brazilian state and the actual energetic politics penalizes the energy consumers and workers of the energetic sector and tends to destroy the state companies which today guarantee the offer of energy at a lower cost of fees.
According to the document, the offensive of capital increases the social inequalities in the country, because the natural resources and the result of the obtained profit at the energy sector, is in great part destined to the owners of the large companies, of the banks and the acts of funds, and are now canalized to the countries of the companies headquarters, mainly located in the U.S and Europe.
For example, the Movement points that the energy generated in the plants are today commanded by the company of United States AES. At the generation of energy, the AES profits nearly one billion of reais per year and sends all money gained in São Paulo directly to United States.
MAB draws attention that the situation may worse if the petrol of pré-sal (Brazilian petrol reservation recently identified). So, appoints to the necessity for a large unity of the urban and rural workers of Brazil, and to the articulation with international workers organizations to defeat the actual system of exploitation and of inequality. Only the intensification of struggles can build an energetic popular project and build sovereignty in the direction of a society without oppression.
By this, MAB is already mobilizing the participation of the affected in all the country for a journey of unity struggles planned at this year.
At last, points that finally that all left should increasingly be guided by the principles of solidarity, humbleness and creative initiative, with a profound love to the people and life.
