MAB jointly with the National Federation of Urban Workers (FNU), the Union of Electrical Workers (SYNERGY) and CUT São Paulo launched two national campaigns. One against the privatization of water, another against the privatization of energy in the Ribeira Valley region, in Sao Paulo state.

The two campaigns are the product of the unity of Workers’ and Peasants Platform for Energy, an articulation of social movements and trade unions that propose a new energy model for the country. The campaigns “Water for Brazil: everyone’s right can not turn into a profit of some” and “All the Power: Privatization is not the solution” were launched last year. They advocate the renewal of concessions in the electricity sector because new auctions may further privatization, and denounce the attempts of privatization in the sanitation sector through public-private partnerships.

Participated in the activity: Gilverto Cervinski, MAB, the mayor of Registro, Sandra Quenedi, Anali and John Campos Prado as representatives of the FNU and Hamilton Correa of ??Synergy.

During the discussion it became clear that privatization only brings negative consequences for the population, undermining work, reducing the quality of services and increasing their price. The board members emphasized the importance of joint processes of struggle and the dissemination and expansion of this debate between field workers and the citizens.
