The construction at Belo Monte are happening very fast, and the Norte Energia, owner of the dam have already started the process of eviction of families of the urban area of Altamira.
The first family is of Eliel Xavier, who lives near to the Orla do Cais, on the street of Pedro Lemos, Catedral neighbourhood, for almost 25 year. The man of 48 years old, earns his living, working on selling drinks near party saloons at night in the city.
Eliel, is one of the eight sons of Edith Xavier, owner of the property. He lives in one of the houses of the property with his wife and daughter, which will be expropriated for the construction of a pumping station that will support a Sewage Treatment Plant. The land has an area of ??356.48 metres, where the front is a residential village, which is the source of financial income for Edith.
The Norte Energia entered in court with the request to take the area for public interest, action that was accepted by Judge Sergio Wolney Guedes de Oliveira Batista. And presented the compensation offer which appears as an offence, taking into account the size of the land, which is a source of income and family housing, and that the value of properties in the city are inflated due to the arrival of the Norte Energia itself.
To have an idea, a property of 200 metres very far from the centre of the city, costs R$ 20 thousand reais. And Norte Energia evaluated the property of the family in approximately R$ 21 thousand reais. Reminding that the property is located at the centre of the city, near to the beautiful Orla do Cais.
Because the property is now for public interest this family is being evicted of the place they always have lived and where they were happy. It is the first case in the city. It is a rehearsal for the collective evictions of all other families affected by the lake of the dam.
Belo Monte is ending with the minimum of peace and structure that these families built with lot of effort. In this historic moment, we are all family Xavier! We need to give notoriety to the case. Demanding of justice a favourable position to those affected, not simply to serve the interests of Norte Energia.
