WOMEN HIT BY DAMS
Arpilleras Exhibition: Reached in defense of life
This arpilleras exhibition brings a selection of textile pieces about the struggle of affected women in defense of life, a small sample from our Arpilleras Digital Collection.
Composed of almost 300 arpilleras, the Digital Collection is the result of long work and collective production by women affected by dams.
In the form of art and embroidery, they are life stories, denouncing rights violations and building struggles.
EMBROIDERING OUR RIGHTS
Populations affected by dams suffer serious human rights violations. We, women, are impacted in a particularly serious way and face greater difficulties in rebuilding our means and ways of life. Our needs are not considered. Through our arpilleras we record and report how we have experienced and faced this pattern of violations.
WEAVING OUR ORGANIZATION
The Movement of People Affected by Dams has a long history of resistance, struggles and achievements. From the beginning, we women played an active and important role in this organization. In addition to being a reporting tool, Arpilleras are an invitation and a possibility to form women’s organizations.
SEWING THE POPULAR DESIGN
At MAB, together with the movements that make up the Plataforma Operária da Água e da Energia, an articulation formed with organizations of workers in the areas of energy, education and youth, we have been focusing on the proposal for an energy project that puts energy at the service of the Brazilian people, with sovereignty, distribution of wealth and popular control.
