The defense of the Amazon is the defense of Life

The Movement of People Affected by Dams – MAB convokes for the day of struggle in defense of life on September 5^th, Day of the Amazon.

Regarding the huge increase of deforestation – in July the National Institute of Spacial Research recorded an increase of 66% – and the criminal burning down of the Amazon, stimulated by Bolsonaro and convoked by big landowners in the states of Pará, Rondônia and Mato Grosso, the Movement of People Affected by Dams – MAB, convokes to intensify the people’s struggles and discussion in defense of our natural richness, Sovereignty and the Amazon on September 5^th – Day of the Amazon.

The Movement of People Affected by Dams convokes all the Brazilian people to manifest once again in defense of the Amazon on September 5^th.

By being together in all the demonstrations held in defense of the Amazon, as well as expressing great concern about the current situation, the Movement of the People Affected by Dams from Brazil, sums to the great national call for us to continue the fight for this just cause.

Our call is for us to maintain our national awareness work on the serious facts that are occurring. Burning the forest and animals, destroying the extraordinary Amazonian biodiversity is something we cannot not accept.

We call all the popular and social movements of the countryside and the city, the environmental organizations, the student and youth organizations, the trade union movement, the religious entities, intellectuals and artists, all the Brazilian people and supporters of this cause around the world to show great repudiation of all destructive practice, as well as the erroneous environmental policy of the current federal government.

We still don’t know all the interests involved in these despairing episodes of the destruction and national degradation. Many may be the motivations, but this practice of environmental destruction is unacceptable.

At this moment our hope is in building a high awareness nationally and internationally, condemning those who practice and stimulates the environmental destruction and creating the best conditions possible sh that all these we are seeing does not happen again.

For this we reinforce the convocation to make all the efforts in these days, to call, promote debates and organization to show to the world that the Brazilian people does not agree with the destruction of the Amazon. And therefore, we also propose to build collectively among all people’s organizations manifestations on September 5^th.

To Defend the Amazon is to defend Life! We are all affected.
