On March 14th, the International Day of Struggle Against Dams, in Defense of Rivers and Life, date on which the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB) completes 27 years of existence, the comrade former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – imprisoned unjustly in Curitiba – sends a letter congratulating the movement and making a call to fight.
This year, the day of struggle of those affected by dams comes in a very sad context, after another crime commited by the mining company Vale, this time in Brumadinho (MG) – the biggest labor crime in Brazil’s history and one of the biggest social and environmental crimes with the disaster of Mariana. Today is a day of struggle also because it completes one year of the murder of Rio de Janeiro’s city council Marielle Franco.
