Women of Tapajós discuss human rights violations

This Saturday (7th of March) we will hold the Seminar “Violations of women’s rights within the process of dam construction at the Tapajós”, in Itaituba. The activity will meet 120 women that are riverine, indigenous, peasants and urban workers.

At the activity will happen the launch of of the Project “Rights of Women Affected by Dams”, in partnership of MAB and Christian Aid, with support of the European Union. The goal of this project is to strengthen the organization of women in defence of their rights in the context of the threat of the construction of dams at the Tapajós Complex and other large constructions in the region, for example the building of a harbour for transporting grains (soya).

“Our goal is to articulate the various organizations of the women of Tapajós for the discussion of the problems that affect us and building a agenda of common demands”, affirms Raione Lima, MAB regional coordinator.

The seminar will happen at the Tend of Cultural Events, from 8:30 am until 05:00 pm. The program of the activity is composed by thematic panels as: public policies, violence against women and impact of the large projects and will close with a march in the streets of Itaituba.

The activity is organized by the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB), Pastoral Land Commission (CPT), Group of Support for Women of Itaituba (GAMI), Codeter, ROTARY Club of Itaituba, Association of Sons/Daughters of Itaituba (Asfita) and Rural Workers Trade-union of Itaituba.

?             Them 4 – Debate building agenda/demands of the women
