Militants of MAB delivery leaflets in SP

Members of the Movement of People Affected by Dams delivered on the morning of Wednesday (4^th September), several leaflets in the city of São Paulo. They distributed the special edition of the newspaper Brasil de Fato: “Affected by Dams”.

Around six o’clock in the morning, about sixty members of the movement followed toward the center of the capital city and settled in the subway station. Throughout the action, people shouted public order and clarified to the people the purpose of the activity.

Mark Antony, a member of MAB, warned that the current Brazilian energy model is not only a problem for those affected directly by the dam, so everyone should be informed. “We are trying to bring the message to the people that everyone is affected. Here the population pays the fifth largest energy rate in the world.” Marco still calls: “We are calling the people to help this struggle against high energy prices, against the construction of dams and the exploitation of our rivers, the environment and the construction companies of dams.”

The special edition of Brasil de Fato treats about the complicated relations in the current Brazilian energy model. The strong influence of transnational corporations, privatization of energy sources and the consequences for the population, especially for those already affected, were the themes.

“We are warning people here in the great center of São Paulo and I believe this will change the way how people think the performance of large companies,” says Teresa Maciel Person, professional fisherman in Rio Grande do Sul.

The action is part of the activities of the MAB National Meeting, held in Cotia, metropolitan region of São Paulo, from  2^nd and ends tomorrow, 5^th September.
