Who we are

We are hit and hit by dams. We live off the sweat of our work and in the hope of better days for all the sons and daughters of our homeland.

The Movement of People Affected by Dams has a long history of resistance, struggles and achievements. It was born in the 1980s, through experiences of local and regional organization, facing threats and attacks suffered during the implementation of hydroelectric projects. Later, it became a national organization and, today, in addition to fighting for the rights of those affected, it calls for a Popular Energy Project to change all the unjust structures of this society from the root.

As an organization, we are the result of a long work of collective construction. Because we do not accept injustice, the destruction of nature and are certain that we can live in a better way, we organize and fight, with great sacrifice, facing powerful enemies who only exploit, oppress and expel us from our communities.

MAB is defined as a national, autonomous, mass, fighting movement, with regional faces, without distinction of skin color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political party or level of education. We are an organization with collective participation and leadership at all levels. Our objective is to organize those affected by dams (before, during or after the construction of projects).

We organize ourselves to defend the interests of populations affected by the electricity generation, distribution and sale system. Our practice is guided by principles and values that find the best form of conviction in the pedagogy of example and solidarity between people. Our struggle is fueled by a deep feeling of love for the people and love for life.
